The Xpeng G9L, an electric five-seat crossover, has been unveiled in China with a starting price of 259,800 yuan (approximately $38,500 USD). This model is a significant addition to the rapidly growing segment of 5.1-meter two-row crossovers in China, which also includes the Zeekr 8X and Li Auto L8. The G9L boasts an impressive array of features, including rear-wheel steering, a 755 km range, an 88-inch AR-HUD, 33 speakers, and an assisted driving system with a peak computing power of 2,250 TOPS.
One of the standout features of the G9L is its design. With dimensions of 5120/1999/1782 mm and a wheelbase of 3,100 mm, it is 198 mm longer than the BMW X5 (G05). The car offers three wheel options: 20-inch, 21-inch, and 22-inch, and five exterior colors: green, purple, black, white, and gray. The G9L has a drag coefficient of 0.238 Cd, which is better than the Xiaomi YU7's figure of 0.245 Cd. Rear-wheel steering and a turning radius of 5.4 meters further enhance its handling and maneuverability.
Under the hood, the Xpeng G9L offers both BEV and EREV powertrain options. The entry-level all-electric model features a single e-motor in the rear axle with a peak power of 270 kW (362 hp) and a zero-to-hundred acceleration time of 6.8 seconds. This electric motor is powered by a 91.9 kWh LFP battery pack, providing a range of 702 km under the CLTC standard. The high-voltage system enables rapid charging, adding 450 km of range in just nine minutes.
The dual-motor AWD variant of the G9L EV boosts the power output to 430 kW (577 hp) with a combined peak power of 430 kW (577 hp). This version can achieve a range of 660 km on a single charge, thanks to the same 91.9 kWh battery. For those seeking even greater range, the all-wheel-drive G9L EV is also available with a larger 110 kWh ternary NMC battery, offering an impressive 755 km of CLTC range and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.45 seconds.
The Xpeng G9L EREV, on the other hand, features a dual-motor AWD system with a front e-motor producing 160 kW and a rear one generating 230 kW (308 hp), resulting in a combined peak power of 370 kW (496 hp). This version accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.95 seconds and is powered by a 63.3 kWh LFP battery, providing an electric range of 435 km under CLTC conditions. The G9L EREV also incorporates a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol-powered engine, contributing to its impressive mixed range of 1,602 km (CLTC).
Inside, the G9L offers a spacious and well-appointed cabin. It features a large 17.3-inch floating screen and a thin 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster. The SUV also boasts an 88-inch augmented reality head-up display, a 9-inch streaming rearview mirror, 24-way power-adjusted front seats, a zero-gravity front passenger seat, and 33 speakers. The seats are equipped with heating, ventilation, and 16-point massage functions, ensuring passenger comfort. Additionally, there are two wireless phone chargers in the front and one in the back.
The second row of the G9L provides ample storage spaces, including a 12.5-liter built-in refrigerator and a large rotatable folding table. The right second-row seats offer a zero-gravity function and a power leg rest. A ceiling-mounted 21.4-inch screen and an 8-inch touchscreen in front of the rear passengers further enhance the entertainment experience. The trunk offers a standard capacity of 1,152 liters, and the BEV version includes a 109-liter front trunk.
Xpeng's G9L is equipped with three Turing AI chips, providing an impressive 2,250 TOPS of computing power. The car's advanced technology and impressive range make it a strong contender in the competitive Chinese market. However, it will face competition from models like the Avatr 07L, Xiaomi YU7, AUDI E7X, Li Auto L8, and Zeekr 8X, each offering unique features and price points.
Despite the recent decline in Xpeng's domestic deliveries in H1 2026, the G9L's introduction signals Xpeng's commitment to innovation and expansion in the electric vehicle market. As the company continues to innovate and compete, it will be fascinating to see how the G9L performs against its rivals and whether it can capture a significant market share in the rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
